Manchester City Reveal Their Purple 2018/19 Third Kit

Champions Last Season. Stuck in Fourth?

That’s right. For any sky blue fans, right now the footballing world will seem a little strange. Even if you aren’t a Manchester City fan, it still seems a little strange. Watford, whose away kit we brought you yesterday, are currently sat higher up the table than last season’s champions. Despite releasing an Amazon Prime documentary, the club are behind one that finished in 14th last season. But hey, maybe this season could be similar to Leicester’s magical 2015 season. Enough about Watford. In eight months they might be relegated for all we know.

Let’s show you Manchester City’s latest third kit. It’s designed by Nike, a company currently in the middle of a political storm. They’re continuing to support NFL star Colin Kaepernick, despite his decision to kneel during the national anthem. An act of protest.

The kit itself is purple. That sentence alone is lovely to say. It’s often that across our desks is pushed kit after kit that is simply fine, perhaps a little dull in colouring. So when one as eye-catching as Manchester City’s third kit comes along. We’re more than a little excited.

Running diagonally across the front of this jersey is a luminous orange sash. This, many have pointed out, is perhaps a nod to the kit worn in the 2010/11 season. Furthermore, as a sash is a symbol of competitiveness, perhaps it is the club’s way of saying that they’re proud to compete on a European stage, or simply a domestic one.

Across the shoulders and back is Nike’s trademark digital-lines pattern. It’s not actually called that but here at UK Soccer Shop, we say what we see.

Whether kits have any bearing over the performance of a club it’s difficult to tell but this is an expertly crafted third kit.
