Beckham returns to Galaxy training
England star David Beckham has returned to light training with LA Galaxy for the first time since picking up a knee injury on 29th August.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder sprained his right knee during Galaxy’s defeat to Mexican side Pachuca in the SuperLiga final after a troubled start to his MLS career.
It had initially been feared that the injury would keep Beckham out for 10 weeks - the remainder of the MLS season but Beckham is determined to return to action before the end of the campaign.
The midfielder had just returned to America after returning to England to visit his father, Ted, who suffered a heart attack over the weekend. Beckham is said to have blamed himself for not visiting him enough and is emotionally distraught at his fathers illness.
During Beckham’s injury lay-off, Galaxy won three consecutive MLS games to give themselves a realistic chance of qualifying for the playoffs.
Although six points behind Chicago Fire, they do have a game in hand with four games to go. Their season climaxes with a trip to Chicago on 21st October which could make or break their season.
Whilst Beckham may hope to feature in those games, England’s double header against Estonia and Russia will come too soon for the midfielder.
