FIFA WORLD PLAYER OF THE YEAR….FACT OR FICTION?
The 30 man list for Fifa world player of the year has been relased this week, with the usual suspects being named, such as Kaka, Messi, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo, but also with also some noteable absentees in David Villa, Totti, Cesc and Seedorf.
But there are some surprise inclusons in the 30 man list, which included Buffon a player who played Serie B football last year, Phillip Lahm who played in the struggling Bayern Munich team who finished fouth and failed to make the Champions League. Other surprise names in the 30 man list where Ribery, Torres and Tevez players who did not do much much for the clubs last year but who all made big money moves over the summer. Which makes you think what do Fifa look at when giving out these awards? is it the players reputation of previous form, hence the reason players such and Henry and Thuram have made the list or is it down to politics?
This is the reason why fans are starting to distance themselves from these awards and they are losing there meaning and signifcance. As players such as Henry should have won the award atleast a copule of times while at Arsenal, but was overlooked over n over again by players who play in spain and Italy, thus showing favortisim to players from those league. Can u remember a the last player outside Italian or Spanish league to win the award?
Even consistent performers such as Maldini and Giggs havent come close to winning the award, they have won trophies year in year out and argubably the most influencial players for the clubs but they still been overlooked.
We all knw that FIFA likes to make money through the big names in world football but what have most the players in the 30man list achieved over the last year?
So is the FIFA Award based on the facts or on who FIFA want to win the award?
