Once a famous name in European football, Dynamo Dresden have fallen on harder times in recent years but with the joy of winning the title with a 2 – 1 win over Sonnenhoff, it’s smiles all round as a traditional kit design was unveiled by Erima.
There’s a mid-70s feel to the black collar, circular but dropping into a slight v, with the yellow body and black cuffs. With just the sponsors logos adorning the shirt, it’s a classic football design updated by the jacquard pattern of differing shades. It was a deliberate choice by the club, Ralf Minge their managing director explained at the launch. The simplicity represents the humility and hard-working ethos of a club determined to stay close to its roots and supporters.
At the top of the reverse is the slogan, “im herzen vereint” – together in the heart – from the Legend of Elbflorenz, the city of Dresden’s nickname of the Florence of the north.
It’s a great design with strong links to a glorious past. Who knows, perhaps those days are set to return!
