Puma Launch Kawasaki Frontale Space Brothers Shirt

The J-League match between Kawasaki Frontale and Ventforet Kofu on 6th August 2016 would normally pass as unremarkable. Two unspectacular sides, they neither troubled last season’s championship chasing sides nor were they relegation fodder.

That all changes with Tokyo-based Kawasaki teaming up with the makers of the anime series, Space Brothers, to wear a space-themed kit instead of their usual strip. In celebration of the “Frontale arithmetic drill” presented earlier in the year by the Japanese technology innovators, the players will don kits designed specifically for this match.

The dual-coloured shirts are black at the top featuring a night sky effect whilst the bottom half is sky blue honeycomb effect pattern. Designer Koyama Chu, said that this was to replicate the outer wall of a rocket. The pattern also encompasses a picture of a satellite.

It’s not the first space-themed kit of the summer. FC Porto’s away kit refers to the Constelação do Dragão – the Dragon Constellation.

Puma’s team have worked with the club to produce a unique strip for a one-off occasion, carefully incorporating Kawasaki Frontale’s usual black, blue and white colours into the kit. On sale now, it is a limited edition which will not have a second production run.
