AZ Alkmaar 2016/17 Home Kit Released

Eredivisie club, AZ Alkmaar, have released their new 2016/17 home kit.

In May 2017, the club celebrates its fiftieth birthday in current incarnation. It was formed in May 1967 when Alkmaar ’54 and FC Zaanstreek merged to form a new club: AZ 67 Alkmaar.

During this time, they have won the Eredivisie twice, most recently in 2008/09, and the KNVB Cup, four times. They also lost the 1981 UEFA Cup final to English side, Ipswich Town.

Last season, they finished 4th but possessed the Eredivisie’s top scorer, Vincent Janssen. The Dutch international has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs, notably Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, but continues the tradition of fine forwards who have played for AZ. Former players include Jan Peters, Shota Arveladze and Kees Kist whilst Southampton’s Graziano Pelle also enjoyed a spell at the club.

Manufactured by Under Armour, the kit uses the club’s traditional red and white colours. For the coming season, AZ will wear a full red shirt, dropping the white sleeves of the 2015/16 campaign.

The front features gradiented red horizontal stripes. The collar is black on the sides and back, with the v-neck white with a filled black splash.

Printed inside the collar is “Samen naar Victorie”, “Together with Victory”, referencing a Dutch saying about the city of Alkmaar. The same motto is printed on next season’s away shirts.

The kit is completed with white shorts and socks. Both feature red trim. On shorts, this is a series of red blocks down the side of each leg. The socks have periodic red hoops.

It’s a straightforward template for AZ to wear but in their anniversary season, one which has a nice retro feel to it.
