Manchester City Unveil 2016/17 Home Kits

Manchester City were busy yesterday afternoon. As well as releasing their widely-leaked 2016/17 home kit, they unveiled new manager Pep Guardiola for the first time.

Manufactured by Nike since 2013, the kit follows the template prevalent amongst their client countries at the Copa America Centenario and Euro 2016 this summer. The initial renderings of the shirt were derided but those prototypes have been finessed to give a more distinctive and recognisable sky blue colouring.

The shirt is predominantly sky blue with Nike favouring a dark navy trim. The shoulders and sleeves are made up of a sky and navy blue thin pinstripes in a herringbone-style pattern. The cuffs on each sleeve are a ribbed effect of the same colour scheme.

The collar features a navy band whilst there is a thicker band of a similar colour running down each side of the shirt from the armpit to the hem, following Adidas’ favoured positioning of their trademark Three Stripes. On the reverse of the collar is the printed motif, “City”.

Principle sponsors, Etihad, have their logo on the shirt front and like Nike’s Swoosh, is in the navy colour. The club’s new badge, previewed earlier this year, sits on the left breast.

The kit is finished with sky blue shorts and in keeping with their current favoured design template, Nike present white socks.

The goalkeeper shorts and socks will both be bright yellow.

It’s the first time in their history that City have gone for the blue combination in the home kit.
