Southampton Launch 2016/17 Under Armour Kits
Southampton, fresh from appointing Claude Puel as manager, have revealed their 2016/17 kits.
The Saints finished last season in sixth place, qualifying for this year’s Europa League. Celebrating that and the arrival of Puel, the club has opted for a home shirt design which is heavily influenced by the mid-1990’s kits worn at the Dell.
Southampton 2016/17 Home Kit
This is the home kit Southampton will wear during the 2016/17 season.
The Saints familiar red and white stripes remain, 120 years since they were first worn in 1896.
Whilst evenly spaced around the front and back, the red stripes are double the width of those in white. Across the chest, kit manufacturer Under Armour has fashioned an angular white panel which mimics the shape of primary shirt sponsor, Virgin Media, logo which sits directly below.
Also housed in the panel is the Under Armour insignia and club crest.
The rounded neck has a red filled v-neck panel at the front whilst the back half of the collar is black. The sleeves are solid red with a thin white band sitting a top a thicker black cuff.
The shorts are black with a red band across each thigh, also feature a white stripe down the side of the legs. The bottom half of the band is given over to intermittent red blocks.
And no, we’re not sure why the model for the socks includes high heels but we think that they may have a trouble with grip on slippery turf…
Southampton 2016/17 Away Kit
On their travels, Southampton will wear this kit during the 2016/17 season.
Predominantly black, the shirt features a grey front panel in the same design as the home kit. The collar is black with the reverse in red. As with the home shirt, the motto, “We March On” is printed on the back neckline.
In a nod toward their famous 6 – 3 win over Manchester United in 1996, the shorts are grey, with a black band around each thigh. Southampton players won’t have trouble finding each other on the pitch; they can just look for the ones wearing stilettos.
Southampton 2016/17 Goalkeeper Kits
These are the kits the Saints goalkeepers will wear next season.
The green shirt with its black flashes on the sleeves will feature in home games whilst the blue with orange flashes, will be used away from St Mary’s.
