Hibernian Release 2016/17 Kits

It’s not been the best of weeks for the Edinburgh clubs. Neither Hibernian or Hearts shone in the Europa League but it could have been a lot harder; they might have been playing one of Gibraltar’s elite teams.

The 0 – 1 defeat to Brondby leaves Hibernian with a difficult task in the second leg in Denmark next week but on the bright side, it’s on the cards to be better than the last time they were in the Europa League. Less said, the better…

And in Neil Lennon, they have one of football’s more broader thinking coaches, who deserves credit for lending his name to a mental health campaign in his native Northern Ireland.

The club undertook a cartoon-style promotional campaign but the home kit is no laughing matter.

The Hibs home kit, in its simplest form, is a marvellous design template. The clean cut of green and white; the clean distinction between the sleeves and shirt. The stark contrast the white sleeves provide is quite simply aesthetically pleasing.

Next season sees a tweak with a white panel across the top of the back, joining the sleeves and embracing the soft v-neck collar.

Traditionalists will find little to complain about the kit, with clean white shorts and pure green socks completing the kit.

Whereas Hearts decided to tweak and went flamboyant, Hibs have kept it simple for the away kit.

The Nike designers followed Forrest Gump’s advice: simple is as simple does and plain yellow with just logos and motifs is as simple as a football kit comes. The trim, for what it’s worth, is green.

Shorts and socks? Green and yellow, with the latter embellished by green trim down the outside. Hibernian 2016-17 Away Kit shorts Hibernian 2016-17 Away Kit socks

It’s a simple but effective pair of kits, one keeping faith with the club’s traditions and a determination to avoid the flashes, splashes and accents which spoil plenty of good kits. Glad to see one of the Edinburgh clubs got their away kits right for next season.
