Bayer Leverkusen 2016/17 Home Kit Arrives

Bayer Leverkusen, 3rd in last season’s Bundesliga, have released their 2016/17 home kit. It’s made by Jako, a German sportswear company.

Bayer has become known to its supporters as “Werkself” – the factory team – through the disparaging comments of opposing supporters. It’s a token of pride which this and their recently released away kit, honour.

This is next season’s Bayer Leverkusen home kit:

The shirt is, as ever, predominantly red. The other club colour of black features in the almost unique sash which runs from left shoulder to right hem. The majority of other kits which have sashes, see them travel from right to left. The sash includes black tonal stripes to reinforce the original design.

The sleeve cuffs are black with “WERKSELF” under the rear of the red collar.

The sponsor – Barmenia – is in white. Like PSV Eindhoven, Leverkusen are moving away from reliance upon the corporate identity upon which the club was founded.

Jako’s motif is also in white on the left breast, opposite the club badge, and also on the shoulder and upper arm.

The shorts and socks are red with minimal black trim. Both include logos of club and kit manufacturer in white.

There are some lovely touches in an otherwise straightforward design. Other bigger kit manufacturers may want to take a step back and realise that bold doesn’t always have to be complicated.
