Benfica Release 2016/17 Kits

Benfica, crowned Portuguese champions last season with a record 88 points, have released their 2016/17 kits, designed by Adidas. The German sportswear giant has produced their kits since 1997 whilst primary shirt sponsor, Emirates airline, is in the second year of a €30m deal which runs until 2018.

Since their formation in 1904 as Sport Lisboa, Benfica have worn red shirts and it’s inconceivable that Adidas – or any other kit manufacturer for that matter – would dare suggest anything different.

The shirt is red with evenly spaced tonal vertical stripes across the front of the body. The trim on the shirt is white, with the collar in a curved v-shape to fit the contours of the neck.

On the sleeves, there are red and white bands which form the cuff. Adidas has placed their Three Stripes on the side of the shirt body, running from the underarm to the hem. Their and Emirates logo are in white font on the chest whilst the club crest, with the three stars signifying the 35 league titles, replacing the two European Champions Cup triumphs used until 2012.

The shorts, with three red stripes down the side of each leg, are white whilst the kit is completed with red socks.
