PSV’s 2018/19 Away Kit by Umbro
Much like when Manchester City commemorated this season’s success, PSV mark their past success
In 1988, Phil Collins’ In the Air Tonight was in the charts and PSV Eindhoven were flying through the season – enjoying a successful campaign which hasn’t been seen since. The Dutch team’s designers decided to not just copy the exact kit that was worn during the ’88 season when both the Eredivisie was won and the KNVB cup, but to instead re-invent it and update the design which can then be used as an away jersey. The original kit was designed by Adidas and was white with sky-blue stripes across the shoulders and down the sleeves (tapered at the bottom of the long sleeve version) with sponsors Philips in large letters across the chest. Around the neck was a blue-ribbon design whereby the two lines overlapped each other.
PSV’s notorious home kit
To update this legendary kit, Umbro have naturally decided to keep the colour scheme exactly the same – white with sky-blue appearances. The sleeves are stylishly highlighted with a white Umbro pattern on the blue bottom, linked to create almost a chain-link effect.

The neck, while not retaining the ribbon-style of overlapping, does feature a pointed front and a white peak around the sides and back.
The original kit had faint lines travelling diagonally in very light blue and the new, updated version has a jagged set of lines which are just as subtle, if slightly different.
Stuttgart Commemorated
On the nape of the jersey, the year of success is commemorated once more and again under the arm with the date “25.05.88,” when PSV beat Benfica with a penalty shootout in Stuttgart.
The overall retro effect of the kit is stunning and perhaps commemorating such a legendary year could in turn bring about unprecedented levels of success for 2018/19.
