Porto Football Kits

Founded in 1893, Porto are one of the “big three” teams in Portugal and consistently compete for the title with rivals Benfica and Sporting Lisbon. The second most successful club in Portugal, they have won two European Cups – the latter of which in 2004 launched the career of a certain Jose Mourinho.

The club play at the 52,000 capacity stadium Estadio do Dragao, which was constructed as one of the core stadiums for Portugal’s hosting of the 2004 European Championship Finals.

One of the most incredible features of the club in recent seasons has been their ability to identify young talent to develop and sell at a profit. Between 2003 and 2013, the club made an incredible £342 million profit on player transfers, providing a springboard for many future stars including Hulk, Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez. Ironically, arguably their best player – Brazilian striker Mario Jardel – did not command a huge transfer fee, despite scoring 130 goals in just 125 appearances for the club.

Porto Home & Away Shirt

The home shirt features blue and white stripes which are generally worn with blue shorts and socks. The club’s first badge was designed in 1910 but was replaced in 1922 by a newer version which is still worn on the shirts to this day. The designer was actually a player at the club – Augusto Baptista Ferreira and incorporates the city’s coat of arms into the crest.

Porto have not had a consistent colour for their away shirts, with white, orange and even brown being chosen as the alternate kit in recent years.

Porto Shirt History

The first commercial Porto shirts were manufactured by Adidas in 1975. In 1983, the club made history by becoming the first Portuguese side to have a sponsor’s logo printed on their shirt, when they agreed a partnership with Revigres which would last for twenty years. Although they remain one of the club’s main partners, they were replaced on the jerseys by Portugal Telecom.

In 2014, Warrior Sports took over the contract from Nike. Warrior were rebranded in 2015 and although the company remains the same, the kits now bear the logo of New Balance.
