Brazil Football Shirts

Brazil are the most successful and most iconic national team in world football and the distinctive yellow jersey is instantly recognisable as one of the most famous shirts in the history of the game. Many of the greatest players ever to grace a football pitch have worn the Brazil shirt, including Kaka, Romario, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Zico and Neymar.

The most successful of all nations, Brazil have won five World Cups, in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002. During the golden era of the late 1950’s to 1970’s, Brazil were dominant and inspired by the player many regard as the greatest of all time – Pele.

Brazil Home & Away Shirt

Brazil’s home shirt is yellow with green trim and worn with blue shorts and white socks. However, this has not always been the case. The birth of the famous yellow jersey can be traced back to a 2-1 defeat to Uruguay in the 1950 World Cup Final – a tournament Brazil hosted.

At this time, Brazil played in an all white kit, decorated only with blue collars. However, this was deemed to be fiercely unpatriotic as it did not reflect the Brazilian flag, in which the green represents the forest which the country are famous for, the golden yellow the country’s raw wealth and the blue the Rio sky at night. In an attempt to kickstart the efforts of the national team, a competition was run to create a new kit which must incorporate the four colours of the national flag.

The winning entry was by a teenage newspaper illustrator Aldyr Garcia Schlee. After trying over 100 combinations, including hoops, chevrons and stripes, he opted for the striking yet simple design that is so iconic to this day. Brazil wore their new yellow shirt for the first time against Chile in 1954 and four years later, won their first World Cup, beating hosts Sweden in the final. Ironically, due to a colour clash with the Swedish jersey, Brazil played the match in their change kit.

The Brazilian away shirt from this day was blue, with the national federation refusing to contemplate a return to the white jersey. Instead, they bought 22 blue t-shirts which were badged with the Brazilian logo. Once you have won a World Cup in a kit, can you consider any other colour in future?

In 1962, Brazil retained the World Cup and for the first time won the trophy in their yellow kit. However, as most media coverage was in black and white, it was not until the 1970 World Cup in Mexico when the legend of the jersey was born. The tournament was the first to be shown on colour television and as Brazil won the tournament with what is regarded by many as the greatest side of all time, football fans around the world fell in love with the now famous kit.

Brazil Kit History

The Brazilian kit has come a long way since it’s humble beginnings when directors were scrambling round local suppliers trying to find a set of jerseys for the team to wear. In 1996, Nike signed a £100m deal to become the supplier of the national team – at the time the largest sponsorship deal of it’s kind. Nike have remained long term partners of Brazil and manufacture the official kits.

To supplement the replica shirts, which are made available in adult, kids and womens sizes, Nike also release the shorts, socks and a range of training kit including tracksuits, polo shirts and jerseys.

Brazil Shirt Printing

Over half the Brazil shirts we sell include name and numbers, which is a quite incredible statistic but is representative of the many legends who have worn the shirt. We supply official shirt printing for any Brazilian star from any era, including Pele, Ronaldinho and Neymar, or you can even have your own custom shirt printing added to your shirt. All international shirt printing includes the front number.
