New Football Kits

Wigan Athletic Reveal their 2018/19 Home Kit by Puma

Wigan Athletic. They haven’t got the most exciting or powerful club name but their fans are some of the best. They’re also back in the Championship after coming first in League One. It is interesting to note that they were relegated in 2015 after finishing 23rd, then they were promoted from League One after finishing first. They were then relegated in 2017 after finishing in 23rd again and then promoted last season in first place. The club love a repeating pattern but fans will be hoping that it doesn’t apply in 2019.

To help them to survive in the Championship and even compete with the old-hands like Ipswich Town or the titans of Middlesbrough, Wigan has teamed up with Puma to create an interesting home kit.

In 1995 Dave Whelan decided to buy a football club. I mean we’ve all been there, but he actually had the wonga to go ahead. At this time, the club were in division three and played in a kit featuring the club’s blue and white colouring, as well as green. Puma have created a kit that reflects this time and so far, fans have reacted positively. That positivity might be down to the promotion feeling and also, it’s pretty hard to actively hate a kit. You can have a mild disliking or an ambivalence, but really, do Ipswich fans actually hate their new kit? Probably not.

The jersey features a blue front, flanked by green and then white on either side. The neckline is simple and features a white tapering and the sleeves follow suit with blue tapering. The club’s sponsors, DW feature prominently on the front and the club’s crest and Puma’s logo feature on the front nicely, without appearing cluttered.

It isn’t long until the new season kicks off. Paul Cook will hope that his team will at least survive this upcoming campaign. Furthermore, he’ll hope that they flourish.
