An Aston Villa Retro Kit Commemorating their 1980 Season Has Arrived

It’s Friday. Time for a Throwback. Here’s an Aston Villa Retro Kit.

Right now, sat at our digital desks, we at UK Soccer Shop have got the Friday feeling. It’s the feeling that the weekend is almost upon us and despite the dreary weather, plans are being made left right and centre. Before we can jet off to the various pubs around the country, we’ve got a kit to show you. It is of course, a retro kit. Furthermore, one recreated to celebrate a certain time in a club’s history. Today, we bring you an Aston Villa retro kit. One that was worn by the Brummy club during their 1980 title race, which they subsequently won.

Fast forward 38 years and the club is currently sat in 16th position. Currently safe from any relegation worries, Dean Smith will want to see Aston Villa rise up the table and push on for promotion. To take fans’ minds off any prospect of League One football, and to ensure that they reflect on their team’s heritage, let’s take a look at an Aston Villa retro kit. The home one to be exact.

To set the scene, the 1980 season was a dramatic one for Aston Villa. Starting with an unbeaten run of four league games. That unbeaten run ended at Portman Road against Ipswich Town. Furthermore, this losing result set the tone for the rest of the season. England’s top division quickly became a two-horse race between the Tractor Boys and the Villans. Aston Villa finished the season with 60 points, and Ipswich Town had 56. In third place was Arsenal.

The kit itself consists of a burgundy body with sky blue sleeves. The Aston Villa retro kit also has a built-up collar and the club’s original crest. Furthermore, both the bottom of each sleeve and the collar are striped.
