Adidas have given a nod to Manchester Utd’s 1968 European Cup winning side by kitting out the current squad in this blue 16/17 Manchester United shirt.
Adidas are looking to make their mark as they enter year two of a long-term, record-breaking deal with Manchester Utd. Taking their inspiration from the clubs history when it comes to designing new kits.
The shirt itself is very much based on the brand’s Euro 2016 template. The Manchester United 16-17 away kit is royal blue, which as we mentioned above is paying homage to the night Manchester Utd defeated Benfica back in 1968. That European Cup victory was the first ever time an English side had won the coveted trophy. The all-over print on the 2016/2017 Manchester United shirt serves to make the shirt look and feel like a classic jersey.
The great aesthetics of the shirt are only heightened by the iconic red Adidas stripes on the shoulder of the football shirt. With a red Adidas logo and club badge setting the shirt off nicely in a sea of blue. A Red Devils logo will feature in the inside of the jersey also.
The Manchester United 16-17 away shorts will be dark blue while the socks will take on the same colour as the Man Utd away shirt.
This is a fascinating and thought out jersey by Adidas, showing they are not slacking since they made a record-breaking deal with the English giants.
Although this won’t be the first time the club’s away shirt has been blue with recent efforts coming in the 08-09 and 14/15 season, there is something fresh about the look.
What do you think of the brand new 2016/2017 Manchester United Away kit?
