Sixteen years ago they lost one of the most astonishing European finals, 4 – 5 in extra-time to Liverpool. Dramatically, the winner came as a result of Geli’s own goal four minutes from time.
The club has endured hard times since but with promotion last season, a smile has returned to the faces of supporters in their home town of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Deportivo Alaves 2016/17 Home Kit
This is the Alaves home kit for 2016/17:
The shirt is the traditional blue and white stripes with a difference. The sleeves are solid blue, as is the back, allowing space for the player identification. On the sleeves, the cuffs are formed of white, green and red bands, the colours of the Ikurriña.
Below the collar is a miniature Basque flag, a signal of pride for the region’s clubs this season. All of the major professional Euskadi football teams feature the Ikurriña centrally below the neck on their kits.
The collar has a retro-look with it’s formal polo-look, a solid royal blue matching the main shirt colours.
Hummel and the club deserve credit for a ‘proper’ football kit. The kit is completed by blue shorts and socks.
The away kit is a shade of red. Very light; you might call it pink but we’d say Rosé. With contrasting black splashes on the shoulders. Not that there’s nothing wrong with pastel shades, particularly with the open polo-style collar. It’s a nice shirt, completed with a black stripe with white Hummel logos down each side.
The kit is completed with white shorts and socks.
All in all, a nice set of kits for Alaves to return to the top flight.
