Flamengo, from Brazilian city Rio de Janeiro, currently sit in sixth place in the Campeonato Brasiliero, just outside of the places for next season’s Copa Libertadores. At the moment, it’s a sizeable improvement on last season’s 12th place finish but there’s a long way to go between now and the end of the campaign.
Flamengo 2016/17 Commemorative Kit
This is the 2016/17 kit Flamengo will use during the 2016 Campeonato Brasiliero and the 2017 Campeonato Carioca.
The club, with its’ diverse sporting interests – featuring rowing, gymnastics, athletics, basketball, judo, swimming, volleyball and water polo – is keen to collaborate with kit manufacturer, Adidas, in producing a commemorative kit for this summer’s Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro.
With its home at the Maracana Stadium, Flamengo are well aware of the positive influence sport has on daily life in Brazil and is keen to take its place in honouring the Olympics.
The base colour of charcoal grey is enhanced with a glittering pattern, representing the dreams of this summer’s Olympians. Adidas has added their trim – the logo on the right breast of the front and the trademark Three Stripes – in red to the shirt, shorts and socks.
It forms a striking contrast on the round neck and with a slender red band on the shirt sleeves forming a dual-coloured cuff.
The shorts follow the same theme, as do the socks, in a striking design, reminiscent of the FC Porto away kit which marked the Dragon Constellation in a pattern across a black shirt. It’s an apt theme for football supporters as we end up wishing on stars and looking to the heavens for explanations!
