Manchester United Adidas Ashington Trainers Revealed

Last year, it was the ‘Stretford’. This year, Adidas will honour Manchester United‘s greatest player, Sir Bobby Charlton with the ‘Ashington’ trainer.

Sir Bobby and his brother Jack were born in the Northumberland town and among many famous sporting personalities to hail from there. Being twenty miles or so north of Newcastle, the Toon have benefitted more than most with Jackie Milburn and club Life President, Sir John Hall, among those born there.

Charlton survived the 1958 Munich Air disaster and went onto to become the club’s record goalscorer, and for some considerable time, held the record for first team appearances until he was overtaken by Ryan Giggs. He was a member of the 1968 European Cup winning side as well as winning three league titles and an FA Cup.

Oh, and with brother Jack, the World Cup in 1966 for England.

The black base colour is accompanied by white trim and gold accents. Manchester United’s Red Devil logo forms an integral part of the design featuring on the innersole and white heel tab.

On the tongue, the Adidas branding appears in gold along with the ‘Ashington’ product name. The use of gold colouring gives a distinctive and stylish edge to the boot.

Completing the design, tags with ‘adidas’ and ‘ASHINGTON’ feature as a distinguished addition. Just 1200 of the ‘Stretford’ boots were manufactured last year but there’s no news yet on whether Adidas will repeat that.

With the outstanding product on show today, this is the opportunity to bring a UK-specific limited edition range to compare with the ‘Messi 1010’ releases.
