Forty years ago, St Etienne almost conquered Europe when they lost the 1976 Champions Cup final and were eliminated a year later in an epic quarter-final by Liverpool. The French club launched their 2016/17 kits ahead of this weekend’s match at home to Lille.

2016/17 Home Kit

It wasn’t the most auspicious of debuts as Les Verts fell to a single goal defeat in the final match of the season and suffered heartbreak as Lille leapfrogged them in the table and took the final Europa League place.

Scant comfort for St Etienne comes with the knowledge that next season’s home kit is a fantastic update on the kit worn with pride and distinction in the mid-70s. All green as we expect, the polo style collar with thin tricolour trim laid in a woven background.

With darker green cuff on the sleeves, the sponsors logos in white create a strong visual centrepoint on the Le Coq Sportif shirt.

The kit is completed by white shorts and green socks.

2016/17 Away Kit

As with previous years, the 2016/17 away kit is dominated by white. Le Coq Sportif have copied the polo-style collar with tricolour woven trim, this time setting it on a green background.

2016/17 Third Kit

For their third kit, St Etienne will wear an all-blue kit. The tricolour collar trim remains but this has a strong casualwear feel about it, with the strong neckline and deep navy colour making it the perfect accompaniment to denim.

With shorts and socks of the same colour, Le Coq Sportif have kept this kit used for the rarest of occasions, a stylish addition to the stable.
