Newcastle United are one of the
best supported clubs in English football and have the fanbase and potential to
be a leading English club, but have been held back in recent seasons by poor
ownership and were relegated from the Premier League in 2016. Despite this, the

The stadium itself has been the
home of Newcastle since their existence. It was developed in the mid 90's and

Newcastle United came about after
the merging of Newcastle West and East End in 1892. The clubs most decorated
spell was in the early 1900's when they enjoyed wining the First Division 3
times and one FA Cup. Since then, Newcastle have won 5 more FA Cups and one
more first division title meaning they are currently the ninth most successful
team in English football history. In the 95/96 season, Newcastle were closing
in on their first Premier League title but famously let a 12 point lead slip
allowing Manchester United to claim the title. A famous interview with then
manager Kevin Keegan where he proclaimed 'I would love it if we beat them'
(referring to Manchester United) has become synonymous with football fans
across Britain.
Controversial owner Mike Ashley
took over the club in 2007 and has had a somewhat mixed relationship with the
Geordie faithful. He bought the club from long term owner Sir John Hall and has overseen two relegations from the Premier League.
Newcastle have been fortunate
enough to have had some great managers over the years, none more so than the
late great Sir Bobby Robson. He steered the club away from relegation and into
the Champions League and mounted a couple of title challenges. Ultimately, they
were unsuccessful and he left the club in 2004 having had some differences of
opinion with the hierarchy at the time.
Newcastle have a bitter rivalry
with Sunderland. Known as the Tyne-Wear derby, the passion shown by both sets
of fans on match day is unrivalled. The passion for their club and hatred for
the other is incredible and over the years, there have been some extraordinary
encounters. No matter what city you are in, you will see them wearing their football shirts with pride.
Newcastle Home Kit
Newcastle's home strip is one of
the most recognisable strips in English football. The black and white stripes
are synonymous with fans across the country. However, this hasn't always been
the case; Newcastle East, one of the original merger clubs, wore a red shirt at
the time East and West merged and this was adopted as their home jersey. It
wasn't until 1894 when United adopted the black and white which was the clubs
reserve colours at the time and has remained their colours ever since.
Newcastle Away Kit
Newcastle United's away kit has
been ever changing in recent times. Since 1995, the clubs away kit has not been
the same for more than one season. Controversially, in 2013-14, Ashley struck a
deal for Wonga to become the new sponsors of Newcastle. This sparked outrage
with fans and players alike. Originally, Muslim striker Papiss Cisse, who has
since left the club, initially refused to play before sorting things out with
the club.

The 'Toon Army' have had several
kit suppliers over the years. They ended their 15 year association with Adidas
in 2010 to move to Puma. Previous manufacturers for the magpies have been
Asics, Butka and Umbro.
