Real Madrid Football Shirts

Real Madrid are the most successful club in European Competition. With 11 European Cups, Real are well established as one of the greatest clubs on earth. The beginning of their European haul started in the 1950's; Madrid won 5 European Cups in a row as well as winning the Primera Division 5 times in 7 years. With players such as Alfredo Di Stefano and Ferenc Puskas, some consider this team to be the greatest of all time. Real Madrid jerseys have never been outside out top 5 selling kits in any given season, such is the global popularity of the club.

The history of Real Madrid started in 1897 when a select few academics and students founded Football Club Sky. It wasn't until 1902 when the name changed to Madrid Football Club and further down the line in 1920, King Alfonso XIII granted the title of Real to the club.

In 1945, Santiago Bernabeu Yeste became president of the football club. It was at this point the stadium was renamed after the president and to this day, the stadiums name has renamed the same. The club has evolved and in 2013-14, Madrid were the second most valuable sports organisation on the planet. Real Madrid kids kits have been ranked in the top 3 bestsellers in 6 of the last 7 seasons.

Domestically, Real have been dominant winning 32 La Liga Titles. With global superstars such as Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham, Raul, Roberto Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, and Karim Benzema among the names to have turned out for the club, it’s no wonder their trophy haul is so impressive.

Real Madrid have two main rivals in Spain, the first of which is city neighbours Athletico. The first match between the two famous clubs took place in 1929 with Real coming out on top winning the game 2-1 and two European Cup finals, it might not be long before they are considered equals in today's game.

The second is arguably the most famous rivalry in world football. For every football fan, 'El Classico' is a must see. The rivalry is not just between the 2 teams but 2 regions in Spain, Castille and Catalonia. There have been some epic encounters in recent years, none more so than Barcelona's 5-0 demolition at the Nou Camp or the semi final of the European Cup in 2002 where Real Madrid came out on top.

Real Madrid Home Shirt

Since 1955, Real Madrid's home shirt has always been white. However, there was one season when the shirt and shorts were not both white. In 1925, Escobal and Quaseda were travelling through England and drew inspiration from Corinthian, a team based in London. In order to replicate them, they decided to wear black shorts. Unfortunately, after heavy defeats throughout the season to bitter rivals Barcelona, it was decided by President Pareges that they would return to an all white kit claiming the change of strip brought them bad luck.

Real Madrid Away Kit

Traditionally, Real Madrid’s away kits have almost always been blue, black or purple. On their way to the European Cup final in 2002, Real Madrid dawned a black away shirt and was worn on route to the final in Glasgow where Zidane famously scored a left foot volley to clinch the title for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid Shirt Printing

In 2000, Florentino Perez was elected as president and with his tenure came the signing of what we now know as 'Los Galacticos'. The likes of Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, Ronaldo and David Beckham would make their way to Real during this period, sending Madrid shirt sales rocketing.

All of these players were popular choices for customers on the back of Real Madrid shirts but nothing quite like the scale of shirts we have sold with Ronaldo (Cristiano) on the back. Surpassing Ferenc Puskas, Cristiano became the fastest player to reach 100 goals in the Spanish Division achieving the feat in 92 games!

Raul, another famous number 7 for Madrid has maintained his legendary status at Real Madrid as their all time record appearance holder and is another popular name on the back of current Real Madrid shirts.

If you can't decide from this array of talent, you can customise your own by choosing your own name and number. You are also able to choose from a fantastic range of Real Madrid training kit including official tracksuits, training jerseys, polo shirts, pants, t-shirts, sweat tops, hoodies and much more.

Real Madrid Shirt History

Adidas have been ever the predominant provider of Real Madrid jerseys. The German based sports brand supplied the kits from 1980-1985 before Real Madrid moved to Hummel and Kelme before going back to Adidas in 1998 where they have remained ever since. Interestingly, in the 2001/02 season, Real Madrid opted not to have a sponsor on the front of their shirt instead promote their club website.
