Croatia Football Kit
Croatia was formed in 1990
following the breakup of Yugoslavia and gained FIFA membership in 1993. Despite
their relatively short history, the national team kit has been worn by some of
the best footballers in the world such as Davor Suker, Robert Prosinecki, Luka
Modric and Zvormir Boban.
Such was the quality of the
Croatian side that just in 1998, just five years after gaining FIFA membership,
they finished third at the World Cup in France. As a result, the Croatian
jersey has consistently been one of our bestselling football shirts as soccer
fans around the globe enjoy the vibrant style and passion from the Croats.
Croatia Home Shirt
The Croatian home jersey is one
of the most instantly recognisable in world football with its unique red and
white chequered design. The first strip in 1990 was designed by painter
Miroslav Sutej, who was also the creator of the nation’s coat of arms. The
distinctive design is not used by the national team in other sports and has
become an important symbol of identity.
Traditionally, the shirt is worn
with white shorts and blue socks. The chequered design often creates a problem
for shirt printing, as the name and numbers do not always show up clearly on
the back and often a white panel is built into the design to alleviate this
problem.
The most famous Croatian home
shirt was worn in the 2006 World Cup Finals in Germany, when the whole shirt
featured the chequered design.
Croatia Away Shirt
In sharp contrast to the home
jersey, the away shirt is always blue in colour, although the red and white
chequers are always incorporated into the design.
White shirt printing completes a
sleek, stylish look for the away kit.
Croatian Soccer Kit History
The early Croatian shirts were
made by Lotto, but have been taken over by Nike, who have manufactured the
national team shirts since the 1990’s.
Their ongoing success in both
European Championship Finals and World Cup’s, where they are regularly tipped
as dark horses to win the tournament has contributed to the popularity and
strong sales history of the Croatia jerseys.
