Ajax Football Kits
Ajax are one of the most
successful club sides of all time, winning four European Cups, but have
suffered heavily from the influx of money sweeping the major European leagues.
Ajax are renowned not only for their famous red and white kit, but for their incredible
youth system which has been responsible for many of the game’s greatest players
including Dennis Bergkamp, Johan Cruyff, Patrick Kluivert and Marco van Basten.
Ajax’s last European trophy came
in 1995 when a star studded team including Marc Overmars, Edwin van Der Saar
and Clarence Seedorf defeated AC Milan 1-0 thanks to Patrick Kluivert. Despite
the clubs decreasing influence on the European stage, sales of Ajax replica
shirts and training kit remain strong as the clubs fantastic heritage ensures their
continuing popularity.
Ajax Home Shirt
Although Ajax are famous for
their red and white striped jersey, this has not always been the case, with the
initial strip being black and red which were the colours of the city of
Amsterdam crest, where the club are based. It was actually due to Dutch league
rules, which forbid two teams from having the same coloured kit, that forced
Ajax to look for an alternative upon promotion to the top flight in 1911 which
caused them to introduce the white kit with red stripe that has become
synonymous with Ajax Amsterdam and is one of the most instantly recognisable
football shirts in the world.
The home jersey is worn with
white shorts and white socks. The sponsor logo, club crest and Adidas badge are
always incorporated into the red stripe section of the jersey.
Ajax Away Shirt
As iconic as the Ajax home shirt
is, the requirements of the design have provided little flexibility to kit
manufacturers over the years and as a result, we consistently see strong sales
of the Ajax away kit.
Dark navy is the most popular
colour for the away jersey, but recently seasons have seen light blue
introduced as the second choice colour and even an illuminous green shirt in
2015-2016.
Ajax Shirt History
Throughout their history, Ajax
jerseys have been supplied by numerous brands including Umbro, Le Coq Sportif,
Puma and Kappa, however it is with Adidas that they are most commonly
associated, having held a long standing partnership with the German sports
brand.
In addition to the home and away
replica kits, Adidas also release an extensive training range which affords
Ajax supporters the opportunity to buy a wide range of items including the very
popular tracksuits, which are generally available in a woven and polyester
material.
Ajax Training Kit
Other available items including
polo shirts, training jerseys, cotton t-shirts, jackets, pants and virtually
every type of clothing and merchandise you can think of. One thing is for
certain – if you are buying a gift for an Ajax fan, you certainly won’t run out
of options in our Ajax store.
