Tottenham Football Shirts

One of the leading clubs in the English Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur – commonly referred to as Spurs – are a London based club who play their fixtures at White Hart Lane. Formed in 1882 by some school boys at All Hallows Church, they were originally known only as Hotspur FC.

In 1901, Tottenham hadn't been elected to play in the Football League but still went on to win the FA Cup becoming the first 'non-league' club to win the trophy. It wasn't until 1908 when Tottenham were elected to play in the second division instantly winning promotion to the first division that very season.

The club’s glory years were under the guidance of the legendary Bill Nicholson. Bill served Tottenham for over 60 years and his time as manager was one of great success. In the early 1960's, Tottenham won the league and cup double in 1961, they defended their FA Cup the following year and became the first British club to win a European Competition defeating Atletico Madrid 5-1 in the final!

Spurs play in a distinctive white home shirt, which is worn with navy shorts and socks. The Tottenham jersey is a consistently strong seller which reflects the club’s position in the upper echelons in the Premier League. Tottenham are an expanding team and sales have increased in recent seasons in parallel with the improved on-field performances of the team.

Tottenham Home & Away Kits

The initial kits of Hotspur FC were actually navy. The club regularly adopt a navy blue away jersey as a nod to their heritage and this colour generally sells better than any of the alternative away shirts.

The club then switched to a white and light blue halved shirt. In 2007, a reproduction of this kit was worn to commemorate the club’s 125 year anniversary. Light blue is another commonly adopted colour for the Spurs away jersey, which is rotated with the navy version.

In 1898, Tottenham first adopted the famous white shirts, which is often attributed to being based on the then great side of Preston North End. Although there have been experimentations over the years – most notably with white shorts, the core features of the kit have remained consistent.

Tottenham Shirt History

The first Tottenham replica shirts were made available for sale in 1957 and were manufactured by the Umbro brand, who continued their partnership with the club until the late 1970’s. After a brief spell with Admiral, Tottenham then embarked on a partnership with Le Coq Sportif who would continue to make the kits until 1985.

In 1983, the club signed their first commercial partnership as Holsten became the first company to have their logo emblazoned on the Spurs jerseys. It was a sponsorship arrangement that would last until 1995 when computing firm Hewlett Packard became the new sponsors. By this time, Spurs had gone through a number of kit suppliers with Hummel, Umbro and Pony all releasing jerseys.

After a spell with Adidas, 2002 saw the introduction of new suppliers and sponsors as Kappa manufactured strips sponsored by holiday firm Thomsons. In 2006, Puma took over the kit supply and Mansion became the new club sponsors.

In 2012, with Tottenham’s stock on the rise after their impressive on-field performances, the club signed a lucrative deal with Under Armour to supply their replica shirts and training kit.
