Kit Detail & Heritage – A Look Back at Ghana's Most Iconic Shirts

The Ghana national team has worn some of the most memorable and culturally rich kits in African football, combining bold design with deep national symbolism throughout their history.

Famous Ghana Shirts Through the Years

2006 World Cup Debut Kit – Ghana's first World Cup appearance marked a new era for the Black Stars. The Puma-designed white shirt with bold black trim.

2010 World Cup Quarter-Final Shirt

Perhaps the most sought-after Ghana jersey in our collection. The crisp white design with sharp black detailing was worn during Ghana's historic run to the quarter-finals in South Africa, the closest an African nation had come to a World Cup semi-final.

1992 AFCON Winners Kit – Though Ghana's last AFCON triumph came in 1982, the early 90s kits worn by Abedi Pelé and his generation remain beloved by collectors for their clean, classic aesthetic.

2014 World Cup Brazil Shirt – A modern, streamlined design that featured subtle Adinkra symbols representing strength and wisdom.

2022 World Cup Return Kit – After missing 2018, Ghana's return to the World Cup in Qatar featured a striking design with the black star repositioned at the centre chest and sleeves edged in national flag colours.

Legends Who Wore the Ghana Shirt

Ghana has produced some of Africa's greatest footballers—players who've represented the Black Stars with distinction on the world's biggest stages. Names that define generations include:

Each new generation brings fresh heroes—and our shirts let you represent them all.

Who Makes the Ghana Kit?

Ghana has worked with several kit manufacturers throughout their history, each bringing unique design philosophies:

Puma – The current supplier since 2005 and Ghana's longest-standing partner. Puma has outfitted the Black Stars through their most successful period, including all four World Cup campaigns. Known for incorporating Ghanaian cultural elements like Adinkra symbols and traditional patterns into modern performance fabrics.

Umbro – Supplied Ghana's kits in 2004, including some pre-World Cup qualification designs that featured classic simplicity.

Adidas – Produced Ghana shirts in 2002, bringing their signature three-stripe styling to the Black Stars.

Mingle – A brief partnership in 2003 that represented a locally-inspired approach.

Le Coq Sportif – Featured earlier in Ghana's kit history during the 1970s and 80s, including some of their early AFCON-winning campaigns.

Each era of kit manufacture brought its own character.

Ghana Kit Evolution: From Retro to Modern

Ghana's kits have evolved significantly while staying true to core elements: the white home shirt, the iconic black star, and the national colours of red, yellow, green and black.

Early years (1960s–80s) featured minimalist designs with simple collars and small crests—pure, classic football shirts worn during Ghana's AFCON golden age.

The 1990s–2000s saw more varied designs with different shades of white and experimental away kits in yellow, red and green combinations.

The Puma era (2005–present) has brought consistency and cultural storytelling.
