Belgium Football Kit
The Belgian National Team are
affectionately known as The Red Devils as a result of the distinctive red
jerseys worn by the team. Only during the 1970s, when manager Raymond Goethals
requested an all-white kit in order to help the team identify each other during
night games, have the Belgians deviated from this. During this period, they
were known as the White Devils.
Despite currently boasting many
of the world’s best players, Belgium have traditionally underachieved in
international football and have never won a major tournament. Their best
results to date was a fourth placed finish in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico and
runners up in 1980. Belgian football is now emerging from a troubled period
where the national team failed to qualify for a major tournament between 2002
and 2014.
Belgium Home Shirt
Belgium played their first match
in 1901, but did not wear their famous red jerseys, instead taking to the field
in a white shirt with tricoloured bands. It was a year later, In 1902, that
they adopted their red kits in order to represent the national flag. Red is the
dominant colour of the home shirt, with black and yellow detailing in keeping
with the colours of the Belgian flag.
In 1981, the team adopted the
RBFA emblem as the official badge, replacing the previous version which
featured a yellow lion on a black shield, in keeping with the national coat of
arms.
The jersey is traditionally worn
with red shorts and socks, however for Euro 2016 black shorts were worn with
the kit, in keeping with the more prominent black pattern on the jersey from
Adidas.
Belgium Away Shirt
Early versions of the Belgian
away kit were traditionally white, however at Euro 2000, which they co-hosted
with the Netherlands, a black kit was introduced by manufacturers Nike. A black
kit was favoured for the next few versions, although at Euro 2016, they went
with a light blue away kit.

Belgium Shirt History

manufacturers of the Belgians, supplying the first kits in 1974 and after a
length absence, re-won the contract in 2015. In the period between this, Umbro,
Admiral, Diadora, Nike and Burrda all supplied the Belgian kits.
Burrda supplied the jerseys for
the 2014 World Cup. They were the first manufacturer to introduce a 3rd
shirt for the national team, which was yellow in colour.
