Sampdoria Football Kits
Based in Genoa, Sampdoria were
formed in 1946 and are formally known as Unione Calcio Sampdoria SpA. In recent
years, Sampdoria have yo-yoed between Serie A and Serie B but remain a very
popular team with football fans who grew up watching Football Italia coverage
in the early 90’s.
Sampdoria play in a distinctive
blue home shirt which features white, red and black horizontal stripes across
the chest and is worn with white shorts and white socks. The away kit is
generally a reverse of the home shirt with white the predominant colour the the
3rd kit is most commonly navy.
The most famous Sampdoria
football shirt was from the 1990-91 season when the club won their first and
only Serie A title. Having never finished above 4th placed in Serie
A, Sampdoria were underdogs in the extreme against the Dutch-inspired AC Milan
and an Inter Milan side comprising World Cup winners Andreas Brehme, Lothar
Matthaus and Jurggen Klinsmann.
However, funded by the oil money
of Paolo Mantovani, Sampdoria built a strong side including strikers Gianluca
Vialli and Roberto Mancini and the enigmatic winger Atillio Lombardo.
The following season, Sampdoria
took on Barcelona at Wembley, but unfortunately lost the game 1-0. However, it
is a period in the clubs history which has ensured that sales of Sampdoria
shirts are still popular to this day.
Although the club have not been
able to replicate the success of the early 90’s as they struggle to compete
financially with the main players, they have managed to attract a number of
quality players, most notably Antonio Cassano who managed to feature in our top
10 sellers of Serie A player shirts during his time with the Blucerchiati.
After a number of years being
sponsored by Kappa, Sampdoria switched to Joma who took over the manufacture of
Sampdoria replica kits as well as the training range which includes tracksuits,
polo shirts, t-shirts and training jerseys.
