Italy Football Shirts

The Italian National team are one of the most successful football countries in the world; they have gained worldwide respect after 4 world cup victories (1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006) and a European Championship in 1968. In 1938, the Italians became the first country to successfully defend the World Cup and with the outbreak of the Second World War, technically held the title for a record 16 years.

The Italian soccer jersey is one of the most beautiful in world football. 'Gli Azzurri' which literally translates to 'The Blues' is the colour of every Italian National team. However, their first 2 matches as a nation saw the team play in white and it wasn't until their third match that we saw he introduction of the blue shirts. The national team wear the Savoy Blue (Azzurro Savoia) with great pride as the blue has a strong association with Italian Royal heritage.

Italy actually declined to play in the 1930 World Cup for reasons unknown. However, under the guidance of Vittorio Pozzo, they went on to clinch the 1934 title. One of the star men in that team was Guiseppe Meazza described by some as the finest Italian player ever and after whom the San Siro stadium in Milan is named. Italian football has not been short of legends in later years with Roberto Baggio, Alessandro Del Piero, Francesco Totti and Christian Vieri just some of the names to star for the Azzurri.

Disaster struck in 1949 when as many as 10 of their squad were killed in the Superga air disaster. They went on to compete at the 1950 World Cup, travelling to Brazil by boat rather than plane, but with such a depleted squad unfortunately didn't progress past the first round.

It wasn't for another 18 years before they tasted success again with victory at the European Championships on home soil beating Yugoslavia in the final.

Italy Soccer Jerseys

Despite a match fixing scandal in Serie A just before the 1982 World Cup, Italy would go on to win their 3rd defeating West Germany 3-1 in the final. It wasn't until 2006 that Italy would again taste more success. Ironically, another match fixing scandal in Serie A wouldn't help preparations but it didn't seem to bother them as they would go on to lift the trophy beating France on penalties in the final. This victory was somewhat overshadowed after Zinedine Zidane head-butted Materazzi in extra time in what was his last professional game of football.

Italian Home and Away shirt

The 'Savoy Blue' home shirt has become synonymous with football fans across the world. The home kit is traditionally blue shirt, white shorts and blue socks with the away kit being the exact opposite being compiled of white shirt, blue shirts and white socks. Diadora, Nike and Kappa have all been previous manufacturers for the national team but in 2003, Puma took over and have been the main supplier ever since.

Italian Shirt Printing

You can have any Italian legend printed on the back of your shirt. With the likes of Andrea Pirlo, Alessandro Del Piero, Franco Baresi and Francesco Totti to choose from, there are plenty of options! However, two of the most popular names are Buffon and Cannavaro and for obvious reasons. Buffon is the all time record appearance holder for Italy. Most keepers at his age would look to retire but his hunger and desire for his national team is unwavering and it wouldn't surprise anyone if he plays for his country well in to his 40's!

Fabio Cannavaro inspired Italy to World Cup success in 2006 and off the back of that was crowned FIFA World player of the year. His performances were that of a true national hero and unsurprisingly, demand for shirts with his name on the back remain high even to this day.

If you are unsure who you want, you can also have your own name and number printed!
