Aston Villa Football Kits

Aston Villa, based in Birmingham, are one of the most successful clubs in the history of English football. Despite a troubled period, which saw the club relegated from the Premier League for the first time in their history in 2016, nothing can change their proud history. Despite the difficult times, supporters have remained fiercely loyal and sales of Aston Villa jerseys continue to be strong.

In the 1981/82 season, Aston Villa won the European Cup. On top of that, they have recorded 7 FA Cup and 5 League Cup victories as well as 7 First division titles. The 1982 retro shirt we have available for sale continues to be popular with supporters.

George Ramsay is without doubt the greatest manager in Aston Villa’s history. His sustained period of success in at the very beginning saw him deliver 6 of their 7 First Division titles as well as 6 FA Cups. These achievements saw him inducted in to the 'Aston Villa Hall of Fame'.

After victory in the 1920 FA Cup, Villa had a 37 year trophy drought. This was ended in 1957 when they clinched their 7th FA Cup defeating Manchester United's famous Busby Babes in the final. They were relegated however a couple of seasons later but under the stewardship of Joe Mercer made a swift return to the top flight as Champions of Division 2. Regrettably for Villa, Mercer was forced to retire in 1964 sending the club in to chaos on and off the pitch.

With resignations from the board and relegations to follow, the 60s were tough for the Villa faithful. However, it all became a worthwhile experience because the 70's saw the club rise back to the top. By 74-75, Villa were back in the top flight and by 80-81, Ron Saunders who was manager at the time lead the club to their 7th First Division title.

The following season was the most memorable in Aston Villa’s history; it wasn't all plain sailing though! To the surprise of everyone, Ron Saunders quit halfway through the 81-82 season. It was left to Tony Barton to pick up the pieces and pick up the pieces he did. He guided Villa to victory in the final of the European Cup beating Bayern Munich in Rotterdam. Off the back of this victory, Villa went on to claim the European Super cup the following season beating Barcelona.

Unfortunately, this was as good as it was going to get for Villa. Since then, it has been an up and down time for the Claret and Blue army. There was some renewed optimism however at the beginning of 2007. Long term chairman Doug Ellis sold his share to American businessman Randy Lerner. He appointed Martin O'Neill, money was spent on the playing side of things and the club started to improve. Villa were a top 8 cub and going places. The increased commercial nature of the Premier League saw Aston Villa shirts increase in popularity throughout the world.

However, just days before the start of the 2010/11 season, O'Neill resigned. This would spark a major downturn in form for the club culminating in their relegation to the Championship in the 2015/16 season.

Aston Villa Home Kit

Villa play in a distinctive claret home shirt with sky blue sleeves, which is worn with white shorts and sky blue socks. Although the colours are shared with West Ham United, Villa were the first team to adopt the colours and are in fact responsible for the West Ham strip, as they donated a set of kits to the club after losing a bet to the sprinting coach.

However, the early Villa kits were not claret and blue. Their early shirts were generally plain colours with matching shorts. The claret and blue jersey was first adopted in 1887, however initially featured quarters.

Along with Villa's form, shirt sales have slightly dipped in recent years but the club have one of the biggest supports in England and the potential is there for a strong Villa side to be one of the leading replica shirt sales in the country.

Aston Villa Shirt Printing

We offer official printing on all Aston Villa shirts. In previous years, Villa Park has played host to some great players and fans were never short of options who to print on the back of their shirts with the likes of Olof Mellberg, Juan Pablo Angel and Stillian Petrov wearing the famous jersey.
